UEFA Hands Artan Major Appointment
In a show of support, UEFA has appointed Artan to officiate the 2026 UEFA Super Cup between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa in Salzburg, Austria, on August 12.
UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin described Artan as an outstanding referee who has proven himself at the highest level of African football.
The appointment came days after the Somali official returned home to a hero’s welcome in Mogadishu following the controversy surrounding his exclusion from the World Cup.
Despite missing out on football’s biggest tournament, Artan has vowed to continue working towards officiating at the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
His story has attracted widespread attention across the football community, with many players, officials and fans expressing support for one of Africa’s most highly rated referees.
