ABUJA — The Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Osa Director, has expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu following the conferment of a national honour on him for his role in Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle.
Osa Director was among several Nigerians honoured by President Tinubu during activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration. The recognition was awarded to individuals who contributed to the struggle that led to the restoration of democratic governance in Nigeria.
Reacting to the honour, the NDC spokesman said he was pleased that his contributions to the democratic movement had been acknowledged.
According to him, the recognition serves as an important reminder of the sacrifices made by many Nigerians during the fight for democracy and good governance.
Director also commended President Tinubu for remembering individuals who participated in the pro-democracy movement, noting that such recognition helps preserve the history of Nigeria’s democratic journey.
President Tinubu had earlier announced national honours for 50 Nigerians during the Democracy Day celebration. The list included politicians, activists, journalists, civil society figures and other individuals who played various roles in the campaign for democratic rule in the country.
Among those recognised was Osa Director, whose inclusion drew reactions from political observers and supporters of the NDC.
The national honours were part of activities commemorating June 12, widely regarded as a significant date in Nigeria’s democratic history following the annulment of the 1993 presidential election and the subsequent pro-democracy struggle.
Director said the recognition would encourage continued commitment to democratic values and the promotion of good governance in Nigeria.
