SOKOTO — The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu’s performance in office will silence his critics and secure his re-election in 2027.
Matawalle made the remarks on Tuesday during a Contact and Sensitisation Retreat organised by the North-West Tinubu/Matawalle Peace and Unity Initiatives in Sokoto.
He accused critics of the Tinubu administration of spreading lies and propaganda to undermine the President’s achievements.
According to him, such attacks will not diminish the impact of the administration’s policies and reforms.
The minister said Tinubu had shown strong leadership by tackling insecurity, introducing economic reforms and supporting key sectors of the economy.
He added that the administration had strengthened the Armed Forces and other security agencies, leading to major gains in the fight against insecurity, especially in Northern Nigeria.
Matawalle also criticised what he described as deliberate attempts by some political actors to mislead Nigerians and discredit the government.
“It is unfortunate that some individuals have chosen to spread misinformation and negative narratives despite the administration’s efforts to promote unity, peace and progress,” he stated.
He urged young Nigerians not to allow themselves to be used for political propaganda capable of creating division and instability.
Earlier, the Lead Convener of the North-West Tinubu/Matawalle Peace and Unity Initiatives, Yusuf Abubakar, said the retreat was organised to deepen grassroots support for Tinubu and highlight the administration’s achievements.
