Former Arsenal and France striker Thierry Henry has apologised to Nigerians after comments he made about a pair of shorts worn by popular streamer IShowSpeed sparked criticism online.
The incident occurred during a World Cup broadcast when IShowSpeed appeared wearing Nigerian-themed shorts associated with the Super Eagles.
While reacting to the outfit, Henry jokingly described the shorts combination as “bad luck,” a remark that was interpreted by many Nigerian fans as a dig at the country’s national football team.
The comment quickly generated reactions on social media, with several Nigerians expressing disappointment and accusing the football legend of disrespecting the Super Eagles.
Henry Clarifies Remark
“I don’t think people understand when a joke is a joke. IShowSpeed had the shorts of Nigeria and the top of the US. I just told him it was bad luck to break the set. It could have been the shorts of France, Italy or Spain, I would have said the same thing.”
