Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, has commissioned 10 newly completed intra-city roads in Makurdi, Benue State, as part of the state’s Phase I Urban Renewal Programme.
The road projects, spanning approximately 11.5 kilometres, were executed under the administration of Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia.
According to a statement issued by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady said the projects reflected the practical implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through investments that directly impact citizens’ lives and livelihoods.
She expressed satisfaction with the pace of development and infrastructural improvements recorded in the state, describing the projects as evidence of the administration’s commitment to delivering meaningful progress.
Mrs Remi Tinubu also commended Governor Alia for what she described as his visionary leadership and dedication to providing the dividends of democracy to the people of Benue State.
“These roads, with a combined length of 11.5 kilometres, including the Shire Bakut Road dual carriageway, Abu Ken Shulua Road, Mama Batteren Road, Alia Street, Dabo Plaza Fashion Hub Road, Sir James Uppo Street, Tega Bar Street, Giotto Aca Road and the connecting Spa Road, are pathways to economic growth,” she said.
“These roads will improve mobility, enhance security and provide a better quality of life for the people of Makurdi and beyond.
“As we commission these roads today, I encourage the good people of Benue to continue supporting the efforts of the governor and to take ownership of these public assets by ensuring their proper use,” she added.
In his remarks, Governor Alia said the projects would improve accessibility, reduce travel time and strengthen connectivity between communities within Makurdi.
Following the road inauguration, the First Lady proceeded to Ihugh in Vandeikya Local Government Area, where she commissioned and handed over a newly constructed Community ICT Training Centre.
The facility was established by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in partnership with the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
Addressing residents who gathered to welcome her, Mrs Tinubu said the centre was designed to accelerate economic diversification through industrialisation and digital transformation.
“The knowledge of ICT serves as a significant tool for empowering communities, especially women, enabling them to break traditional barriers and access new opportunities,” she said.
“By equipping themselves with ICT skills, women and girls can enhance their educational prospects, participate in the global economy and support their families.
“I urge members of this community to take full ownership of this centre. The success of the centre depends on your active participation and utilisation of the resources available.”
The facility was named the Lucy Zaiyol Alluor Community ICT Centre in honour of the renowned educationist and former school principal.
It became the fourth ICT centre commissioned under the NITDA-RHI collaboration, following the inauguration of the Zainab Bulkachuwa Community ICT Centre in Bauchi, the Amina Ndalolo Community ICT Centre in Kwara and the Onikepo Akande Community ICT Centre in Ibadan.
The First Lady also used the occasion to support 1,000 women petty traders, presenting each beneficiary with ₦50,000 to boost their businesses and livelihood
